A Dog in Red High Heels; Or A Summary of My Weekend

Dog in Red High Heels

Why shouldn’t a dog wear high heels?

Maybe not to dance in – I don’t expect miracles.

But just slip them on for a quick photo shoot is all I’m asking.

A Dog in High Heels

This was, as it turns out, a bit much to ask.

Apparently, dogs don’t like high heels.

A Dog in High Heels

No matter the lively color.

A Dog in High Heels

They try out their oh-poor-me-I’m-being-forced-to-wear-fashionable-footwear face.

Which is surprisingly well-prepared.

A Dog in High Heels

Then look away, as though they’re trying to block out the horror.

Just a bit dramatic, don’t you think?

A Dog in High Heels

Still, at some point you’re then forced to consider…

A Dog in High Heels

Maybe some dogs were just meant for flats.

A Dog in High Heels

But that leads to the eternal question.

Do brown shoes go with black fur?

Other eternal questions include just how exciting is the Giants winning the Pennant?

And can a beagle ever truly lie on its back on a doghouse?

  • SpilledInkGuy September 8, 2011, 9:44 am

Not a bad choice in the end.
    Stylish… yet functional.

  • imperfectmomma September 8, 2011, 9:46 am

Black & brown? A little fashion forward. I like it :)

  • Casey September 8, 2011, 10:04 am

Dogs can be so annoyingly sensible sometimes. Ugh.

    • Megan September 8, 2011, 1:12 pm

      I know, right?

They just need to learn to live in the moment like us!

  • Mommie Dearest Strikes Again September 8, 2011, 10:42 am

Well, obviously, you need to get some red flats!

This was hilarious – I love the photos!

  • Janie Fox September 8, 2011, 10:50 am

Haha I love this. I have blogged about my dogs before…but they are nudists. Shocking, I know.

  • Sarah @TheExPatBride September 8, 2011, 10:57 am

Your dog is adorable. I agree with Mommie Dearest… red flats would be ideal :)

  • david waters September 8, 2011, 11:04 am

this brought a smile, and I think dogs should get to do whatever they want, they give us so much love :)

  • Elisa September 8, 2011, 11:19 am

This is AWESOME! I laughed out loud at the end. Yes, dogs should prefer flats. They just look classier when someone already has long legs lol :0)

  • Missy Jill (What's Going On Here!?) September 8, 2011, 11:35 am

You’ll have a lot of explaining to do if you’ve suddenly undone all those years of training for him to leave shoes ALONE.

  • Abby September 8, 2011, 11:38 am

I’m with the pup, here. High heels are NOT for me. However, the flats are fashionable AND functional. Good choice, pooch, good choice.

  • Mindee@ourfrontdoor September 8, 2011, 11:38 am

I vote for a really nice pair of boots.

  • Jen September 8, 2011, 12:09 pm

I am suck a sucker for a dog in red high heels.

  • Bodaciousboomer September 8, 2011, 12:12 pm

I had a dog once that did like high heels. But then he also liked Judy Garland.

  • liz September 8, 2011, 12:25 pm

That dog is a damn good sport! You can tell that s/he is not digging the forced fashion.

  • John September 8, 2011, 12:47 pm

    Awwww, what a cutie.

Speaking from experience, Beagles can lie down, in any position, in any location.

  • Tazer Warrior Princess September 8, 2011, 1:56 pm

My dog LOVES my purse. It’s HIS PURSE. Rue the day I put the purse on the floor, cause he snuggles as much of his 90# body on it as possible.

I want to get some heels and see if my dog will wear them. They’ll go with his purse, after all.

  • Valerie Daggatt September 8, 2011, 2:33 pm

Love your sense of humour, and love your dog. Apart from the colour (mine was a yellow) he’s the image of my old dog, sadly no longer with me. The facial expressions on your, sorry, his pictures are superb.

  • julie gardner September 8, 2011, 3:20 pm

Maybe he just doesn’t like polka dots.

Or he is jealous of the cat bowl.

    • Megan September 9, 2011, 12:25 am

I never even considered that – obviously he’s jealous!

  • Lindsey September 8, 2011, 4:37 pm

I miss Monroe. And you. So much.

  • nursemyra September 8, 2011, 4:39 pm

I love the lining on those red shoes

  • Kelley September 8, 2011, 5:21 pm

Hahaha!! You are a nut! I think that brown flats go excellent with the black fur. The red heels are just asking too much!

  • Skye September 8, 2011, 5:30 pm

I think Monroe would look dashing in a set (I almost wrote pair, but he’d need 4!) of red rain boots!

    • Megan September 8, 2011, 9:00 pm

Now that would be an amazing look – I wonder where we could find those?

  • Emmy September 8, 2011, 8:02 pm

Lol! Love this post. And Monroe really needs to learn that the red looks amazing with the black fur.

    • Megan September 8, 2011, 8:57 pm

      I know, right?

How will he ever become the doggy fashionista I know he is inside?

  • Blond duck September 8, 2011, 8:08 pm

At least he didn’t eat them!

  • Christina September 8, 2011, 10:07 pm

You speak of baseball. This is my love language.
The dog and the shoes? Funny indeed.

  • Lisa @ Blithe Moments September 8, 2011, 10:56 pm

Personally I thought the red shoes were a more fashionable choice – colour blocking you see, with contrast against black fur. However I am very much of the belief that black and brown work excellently together, so I also approve of the flats.

I have no comment on baseball, I can talk about cricket or AFL (Australian Football League – best looking footballers on earth, google if you don’t believe me, oh those gorgeous arms) at length though.

But I can say while I don’t know if a beagle would do it my schnauzer used to regularly lie on her back on her kennel. It does have a large flat top like a table, but the intention is the same don’t you think?

  • Sandy September 8, 2011, 11:06 pm

one word…aspca! well, that acronym has more than one word, but you get my meaning! i got my eye on you and that poor defenseless puppy. =o)

  • shell September 8, 2011, 11:32 pm

I don’t blame the dog. I hate heels too.

  • Walt September 9, 2011, 3:20 am

Dogs can be so practical at times.

  • blackhuff September 9, 2011, 4:34 am

Your dog is a natural in front of the camera :)

  • Kari @ bite-sized thoughts September 9, 2011, 4:40 am

    I’m a flats girl too :)

Your dog is more photogenic than I though!

  • Vince September 9, 2011, 7:52 am

With my one getting her to look at me while holding the camera is totally impossible. It’s as if she’s saying ‘side, man, THE SIDE FACE’

  • Stephanie September 9, 2011, 9:08 am

I find that my dog prefers strappy sandals. Pumps aren’t for everyone, you know.

  • alonewithcats September 11, 2011, 9:09 pm

The shoes really bring out his eyes.

  • Kimberly September 13, 2011, 9:12 am

My dog loves heels….as a side dish to any meal he eats. Surprisingly he is still allowed to live in my house.

  • Tony McGurk November 24, 2011, 2:55 pm

Ha Ha Love your blog Megan & am RSSing you. Your posts are hilarious. I think the brown flats are a more conservative look for your dog the dog you are sitting. Perhaps the red heels would more suit a Dalmatian being fire engine red & all that…

    • Megan November 28, 2011, 4:49 pm

Ooh, now I need to steal a Dalmatian! Good plan.
