Sharon wore white. Her father walked her down the aisle. There were bridesmaids and groomsmen and a flower girl carrying rose petals. After eating there was a massive quantity of sugary cake.
It was a traditional wedding.
Still, everything about it was uniquely Sharon and Dan.
Sharon bought her dress at a vintage shop for less than $100, instantly knowing it was the one.
The bouquets were made out of lavender and yellow buttons, purchased on Etsy.
The flower girl was not pleased with her assigned basket of petals, and attempted to steal the bride’s bouquet.
It’s not as easy to debate with a two year old as you’d think.
They have screaming on their side.
The photographer was an old friend from school. In fact, she’s still in school.
This was her first ever wedding.
Tiffany was sweet and open and used the phrase “totes legit” roughly 359 times over the course of the weekend. The first two qualities were enough to make up for the latter.
Due to last minute technical difficulties, my mom had to sew Sharon into her wedding dress.
Project Runway style.
Sharon got dressed in that closet.
Her mulish expression is because I opened the closet to photograph said dressing.
We all have a part to play.
They stood on a Ukrainian wedding rug.
Sharon’s Ukrainian.
At least her family makes pirogis every Christmas.
That’s what makes it official, right?
Did I mention they got married next to a pool?
Sharon rocked a bridal bathing suit,

A Unique Wedding

Thanks for the info on the perfect dress. You know it’s just like that with the dress, you know as soon as you see it that it’s the one – kind of like a house that way. With both my wedding dress and my house (and my husband), it felt like I had found something I had always had but was missing and finally found again.
Okay, it all makes sense now. Vintage of course, always better I think. The bouquet just totally rocks. For someone who sells vintage on Etsy, I must say I am now in love with your friend Sharon – too bad we’re both already married.
You’re right, it was all the little details that made it so *them*.
Also, the guests refused to dance. That was pretty unique.
That’s great that the ceremony was uniquely them. That is what makes it all the more special!
So the not studying-to-be-a-wedding-and-event-planner part of me loves the description of this wedding because it all just looks sweet and them. And the studying-to-be-a-wedding-and-event-planner part of me is taking a few notes here and there to use as suggestions one day… like the bouquet! That is such a unique idea, I love it! And getting married by a pool… so cool.
Any ideas I come up with off of this one day will be credited to this site, promise.
Feel free to credit Sharon and leave me out of it – I’m just the annoying bystander!
Thanks, I’ll make sure to give the right credit if I ever get to suggest these awesome ideas. They’re so cool!
This delights me. Love the bouquet and the fact she didn’t have a riduculous all about me cupcake dress wedding.
Love Sharon’s vintage dress.
I’m so old that I don’t know what “totes” means. Someone used it in a comment on my blog and I was freaked out all day.
It’s short for “totally” – and it’s okay, Skye and I didn’t know that “legit” is now used to mean something positive.
Apparently we’re already too old for hip lingo.
it’s so great that they made it uniquely them. and i LOVE the bouquets; thanks for answering my question!
and thank goodness for your mom.
and why bother with a photog when she’s got you.
although i think you probably doubled the prep time with all your pictures!
Oh my gosh! That dress is gorgeous.
I wish I hadn’t spent so much on mine. I keep meaning to sell it, but that’s like, work. And effort and stuff.
Looks like an awesome time. You’re a pretty good documentator (yea, I know), nice photos.
Totes legit. Awesome.
LOVE the boquet. The creative touches are awesome.
now I know where you inherited your beautiful hair
I love personal weddings. And I LOVE a wedding dress for under $100!! It’s great to see a couple who did not lose their minds over a ceremony when everything that comes after it is what counts.
I LOVE the button bouquets…what a creative idea!
Love, love, LOVE the button-flower bouquet! So cute! Also…thanks for explaining the “totes legit” phrase in your comment above, I was going to have to googe it otherwise
The dress is gorgeous and I love the uniqueness of the bouquets!!
I seriously adore the flower bouquets…and kind of want to steal them for my future wedding. Stupid question though – were the petals real or were they also from Etsy?
The petals were real – we picked them off a bouquet of roses and daisies we picked up at the grocery store. That’s where the daisies in Sharon’s hair came from.
I am a huge fan of Sharon’s dress. It’s so simple and classic, but also unique–I’ve never seen one like it. I love the high neck line too. I started out wanting something like that for mine, but it was too darned hard to find with all the stores carrying nothing but strapless.
I don’t know any of these people and I barely know you from twitter, but i absolutely adore this wedding.
I finally made it to a coffee shop to get on the internet and catch up on your blog! I love your perspective on it all, and I miss you guys already! And thank you to all the people I don’t know for all the compliments on the dress and bouquets!
Love you!
Sharon
That bouquet is amazing!! I hope you plan on posting a tutorial of how you made it!! Or at least direct me to the tutorial you used. I don’t plan on getting married again but I just feel that it is information I need to know to carry on in this world!
Please share!

What a cool wedding and I bet they won’t have to be paying it off for the next five years.
One of Sharon’s many graces is practicality – one I quite envy!
