I have been friends with Sharon for over twelve years.
In that time, she has never – not once – expressed an interest in scrapbooking.
So for Christmas this year, Skye & I decided to give Sharon her own fill-in-the-blank scrapbook about Denver.
(We’re quality friends.)
(And in case it isn’t clear, the little female wooden figure? Is on top of a wooden state of Colorado. Which looks like a random square because the guy who shaped Colorado is boring.)
This isn’t the first scrapbook Skye & I have given to Sharon – readers who remember Sharon’s wedding might remember that instead of any of the things they actually asked for, we got them an I Do’s and Don’t's: A Guide to Marriage scrapbook.
(We’ll ignore what you want, but we’re very consistent about it.)
Sharon loves her life in Colorado, so it only seemed appropriate to give her a gift that, after she put in all the work herself, would memorialize that love.
And all the coolest gifts include photos of the giver(s).
She’s also never expressed any interest in motorcycles
So I think we all know what’s coming next year,
Megan

That’s a really amazing present. And I’m a little bit scared that having not set foot in Colorado for over a decade, I know right where she lives based on the address. (It’s possible I had a friend that lived in the same mazelike-roaded apartment complex… or the identical one six blocks up Peakview…)
That is the most adorable/awesome present. And love that your presents to Sharon are all scrapbook related.
Wow, that is really cool! You guys put a lot of work into it. Nice
Oh my gosh! While it is hilarious when you put it that way, please know I absolutely love these gifts! I was just looking at my marriage scrapbook the other day, and it made me so happy. It was by far the most thoughtful and (dare I say publicly on the internet) my favorite gift we received. I will definitely send pictures when I start working on the Denver scrapbook! Unfortunately, for now my craft time has been dedicated to finishing shower gifts for babies that have already been born and wedding gifts for friends that have already gotten married. So behind!
That is the coolest present ever! Seriously amazing!
This is an amazing gift. And also, it suggests a distinct lack of laziness. Or alternatively phrased, quite a lot of work!
I love this unique gift Megan. I must say that you’ve shown Sharon such love that can’t be bought!
For my Grandmama’s 85th birthday, I made her a scrapbook called Grandmama Dolly’s GREAT Grandkids. And I stickered and papered it, and made sure I had a spot for every single grand, great, and great GREAT grandchild. However, as she went to open the gift she said, “This better not be work for me, because apparently everyne thinks I have nothing to do.” I nearly had a stroke.
However, she actually did fill it in. And after she passed away, my mom was very happy to have it.
I love the gift! Anything handmade and personal rocks in my books
I would love to learn how to make cards, but we don’t have any type of card making classes in my area, which stinks. Scrapbooking didn’t really take off over here.
As I contemplate where I move to next and the next steps in my life…. I soooooo want to create a book just like this for myself. That way I’ll be able to keep track of what I like (or don’t like?) in a consistent way.
So what you’re saying is that all I have to do to get a gift from you is to not express interest in getting one? Or are you saying that once I express interest in getting something from you, you’ll get me something completely different? Because if the latter is the case, I’ll totally express interest in receiving scrapbooks and motorcycles.
That has to be the most awesome unasked for present. My last one included a concrete thong (aka flip flop shoe, not underwear) with a welcome sign on it. Presumably to put by the front door. I still don’t know what to do with it.
What an awesome present! I LOVE that! =)
This is priceless! What a beautiful thoughtful gift. =)
This is the epitome of the Thoughtful Gift, which is something that I’m incapable of giving. Not because I don’t TRY, I swear. But apparently my gift-picking skills are inherently flawed.
Like, instead of a nice handmade scrapbook, I’d give someone a WaterPik because I heard them mention once that they hated cavities. See? Very thoughtful. But not a very fun gift.
Maybe just a motorcycle kit. SHe’ll appreciate it more after she builds it.
Awesome! How could Sharon not love it?!
Nice hole-punch work, too! I mean… it’s like… a ring passing through EACH page?! TWICE?!
What kind of sorcery is this?!
You are seriously the awesomest friends ever.
I am not a scrapbooker either but I think I would love a gift like that. A fill in the blank scrapbook is something I could handle.
Probably.
If only printing out pictures and picking them up from the store were not so hard.
I love this kind of random, thoughtful, and unasked-for gift! Reminds me of college with my crazy awesome roommates. I am impressed with the effort you put into it!
This is so sweet! While I have never expressed any desire to scrapbook, if someone did this for me, I would really appreciate it . . . and then probably put it in the same place as both of my kids unfinished baby books. Oops. Sorry.
Wow, that is so cool and thoughtful. I hope she has fun filling it in.
