Are You My Groundhog?

Long time readers of Best of Fates may remember Gerald.

He’s my groundhog.

Not that I own Gerald.

Can one ever really own a groundhog?

But we have an understanding, a deep bond, if you will, that connects us on a higher level.

It’s been a long, cold winter since Gerald started hibernating.

When the snow piled up and the temperature dropped I pictured him, cozy in his hole, catching up on old episodes of Lost and shoveling in spoonfuls of Alpha Bits.

What? That’s not what groundhogs do while hibernating?

Well, I’m the one who has a groundhog friend named Gerald, so really, doesn’t that make me the expert?

Yesterday, Gerald officially returned to the above-ground world.

I knew he couldn’t stay away from me for long.

Calling myself an expert in anything makes me laugh,

Gerald is kinda cute. From a distance, that is. Up close I think his teeth could be a lil scary.
Enjoy expert status. I’ve never been there, but I think it would make me laugh, too! :-)

I’d buy that he spends the winter catching up on LOST and eating yummy cereal. You are the expert, and always listen to them. ;)

Hehe, Gerald is a cutie. Glad he’s reappeared!

he sure is cute! But.. but… how do you know it’s Gerald?

My mom sensed that was his name one day – and then, after looking at him, I had to agree.

I mean, have you ever seen a groundhog who looked more like a Gerald?

If you are going to be an expert in anything I think groundhogs are the way to go!

I love Gerald.

That is a HUGE ground hog. Around here they are more squirrel sized. Glad he made it through the winter successfully. :)

Gerald sure looks dandy among the dandelions! ;)

I’ve never seen a groundhog in person. Gerald is MUCH larger than I had imagined them to be. I thought they were like little rock squirrels (that’s what I have). Perhaps it’s all the Alpha Bits…

Gerald is adorable. I want one! Shame I live in the midst of the concrete jungle. A squirrel or raccoon just won’t do. I have groundhog envy.

Gerald’s a big, healthy boy! I think maybe Domino’s has been delivering to his burrow over the winter. And I must say with all the pics this post puts me in mind of Pioneer Woman – just with a ground hog inatead of a basset hound.

He is a big boy! He packed on quite a lot in preparation for winter last fall, and strangely he doesn’t seem to have lost that much – it must have been a luxurious season down below!

Yay, Gerald! I was so worried about him all winter! With the Snowpocalypse and all! Glad he’s back!

Oh! Your groundhog is WAY cuter than the raccoons, squirrels and opossums that frequent my yard.
I have rodent envy.

Ha…it’s always good to see the familiar animal faces reemerge after a winter.
