Death is the Ultimate Vacation (Second Only To Actual Vacations)

Sarah Vowell's Assassination Vacation

Cinderella was a bit of a gold digger. Not that I blame her – goodness knows if I was forced to sleep next to a fireplace I’d jump on my first chance to nab a mattress.

Especially if said mattress came in a mansion.

I’m thinking of the Disney princess with the pumpkin obsession because my aunt’s local theatre is doing a production of Cinderella and I’ve traversed the roads to Maryland to see it.

I’m also thinking about murder. Only murder of famous people, so as it’s more commonly known, assassination.

And if you want to read a unique, quirky, thoughtful guide to dead-by-bullet presidents, you couldn’t find a better book than Sarah Vowell’s Assassination Vacation.

(If you noticed my use of the word quirky, you know why I was entranced.)

I’m writing this sitting at the dining room table and my cousins have arrived, so I feel it’s time to return to normal human interaction.

But have no fear – I’ll be back tomorrow.

Until then, introduce yourself to Sarah Vowell. She’s a lovely person to know.

It’s surprising my family puts up with me,
Megan

EDIT: When first posted, “Cinderella” in the first sentence was accidentally spelled “Vacation.” I blame technology. And my family telling me to stop whining about Cinderella and vacations and eat dinner.

I just spent the last 15 min reading your blog…..and that’s a lot, since I only had 9 minutes to get 3 kids ready for swim team and out the door. Can’t wait to read some of the books you’ve suggested since I just discovered the library (with books in English) here in Japan. Thanks for stopping and visiting my blog! (31dtbbb….is that the acronym?)

You know, I actually have time to read this summer, and I still haven’t read a single book. Stop taunting me!
