Dog Excited Faces, Curly Fries, & Adam West: Happiness Now

What’s making me most happy today?

That I finally got my computer back to normal and can share photos of what’s making me happy.

Including Skye being home.

And her car back up and running.

(Pay no attention to the failed inspection sticker in the window.)

That I’ve finally gotten my dad’s dog Buckley to make an #ExcitedFace with me.

(It took some months but I’m really pleased with the outcome.)

(Not sure why this isn’t covered in standard dog training.)

I’ve found a deli with quality curly fries.

(If by found I mean my dad took me there, which I obviously do.)

Skye and I played an entire game of clue, which ended with me first discovering who must be the murderer and their weapon and location.

When I went into the case file to verify my guesses, I found it empty.

As it turns out, when I shuffled the cards and passed them out, I forgot to take 3 out to be the guilty parties.

(This is just as embarrassing as it sounds.)

This ice cream exists, if you hadn’t heard.

(HIGHLY recommended.)

I’ve finally re-started watching Walking Dead with Jeff and Lindsey.

(We like to keep roughly four months behind everybody else.)

(It makes it impossible to make casual party conversation about what TV I watch, so I can then focus on telling hilarious strawberry-themed jokes.)

(I also went to a real-life party this weekend, except I forgot to take photos and made not a single strawberry-themed joke, so there’s really little to share.)

I took twenty photos of us walking to get a great shot of Buckley and me.

This is the best I got.

(Clearly his photo training has not ended with his #ExcitedFace mastery.)

(No dog’s perfect.)

Skye’s return has brought the return of Tuesday Nights (currently held on Thursdays).

And we’ve continued the tradition of always making quesadillas.

(I love traditions.)

(It’s the laziness in me.)

Anna took me out to dinner at my first ever vegetarian restaurant.

(I tend to avoid them, as I’m a vegetarian who doesn’t like tofu or seitan or fake meat of any kind.)

(It’s a struggle.)

But she managed to find a meal I enjoyed.

(She was, rightfully, very proud of herself.)

(It was aloo gobi, if you were curious.)

I discovered that ME TV shows old Batman episodes.

I cannot emphasize enough how exciting this is.

(They also show old Wonder Woman episodes, which are not quite as entertaining as I’d hoped.)

My mom returned home.

(She was visiting family in Michigan.)

(One of the kids has graduated high school.)

(Leaving only one left to go.)

(Subtext: I’m super old.)

We celebrated her return with Japanese food.

And no celebration is complete without Shirley Temples.

Afterwards, my mom prepared her famous sliced pineapples.

(You can tell we’re not fancy guests because she didn’t keep the head on like she would for proper guests.)

Finally, we attempted to make frozen margaritas, only it turns out my mom’s blender is too powerful to crush ice into slush and instead immediately liquefies all cubes.

(Which is probably a sign we’re close to the machines taking over.)

(So enjoy your non-poisoned fruity drinks now.)

(The end is nigh.)

But there was plentiful salt, so I was pretty pleased.

What’s making you happy today?

I am two and a half seasons behind for Walking Dead, so I win!
Today, I got back editorial notes for my manuscript, so I am one step closer to having a publishable novel, hopefully. Also the rest of the steps are giant castle at the top of the beanstalk steps.

That is crazy exciting, congrats! If, when you reach the height of fame, need some sort of assistant, I am often available.

  • Stephanie (@MakingMyOwnSun) June 2, 2014, 12:12 pm

This skill of dog excited face intrigues me. I need my dog to learn this rather than his whole eyebrow of disbelief look. Which I get quite frequently.

Also – that dress is totes adorbs. And now that I feel like I’ve reverted to 10 years ago my day is complete.

I applaud your entree selection — there’s a cheap Indian take-out place in the mall next to where I work. They have 3-4 vegetarian options available at any given time (they’ll make anything if you call & order, but that requires pre-planning), and I wish there were a way that I could know that they’d have aloo gobi on hand, because I would visit more often if I knew.

    Also? Saag paneer.

It’s impossible to eat good curly fries and to be sad at the same time. It’s scientifically proven.

I’m so excited Buckley did #excitedface with you!

Also, super want to go to that vegetarian restaurant, like woah.

    • Megan June 4, 2014, 11:32 am

Hey, he really came through for me!

  • Alice June 2, 2014, 5:44 pm

I am going to need some of that salted core B&Js STAT.

  • Jo-Anne June 2, 2014, 9:13 pm

I found this to be a nice feel good post

When my kids come home from school, I’m totally going to ask them to play Clue with me then *forget* to keep out the three guilty cards.

    Just to mess with them.

    (Insert Excited Face Here_________)

I saw that ice cream at the store last night, and was “this close” to buying it. But at the time, I was craving black raspberry ice cream, so that’s what I got. I imagine that I will return for the salted caramel, as that’s only right.

  • Emily June 3, 2014, 5:56 pm

I would smack someone right now for those curly fries. OH and what is that pineapple deliciousness your mom made?! Is there anything between the slices? It’s so pretty!

    • Skye August 24, 2014, 2:26 pm

Nope, just plain pineapple sliced so it’s both pretty and easy to eat!

  • Kari @ bite-sized thoughts June 3, 2014, 9:07 pm

Lots of happiness! I also imagine you could go into business training dogs in excited face poses. What dog owner wouldn’t want that?

I love that you post pictures of food happiness as food is also one of my sources of happiness thus your pictures of happiness make me happy as well.

    Say that 10 times fast.

  • Brandi June 4, 2014, 9:19 pm

Seriously you’re the funniest person on the internet! Your posts always crack me up. Now I’m off to find that ice cream you mentioned!

    • Brandi September 29, 2014, 1:30 pm

Hey Megan! Just dropping by to say and hello. Hope you are well.

  • Susu Paris Chic June 7, 2014, 8:43 pm

    Hi girl!

Thanks for your comment on my blog:) Your post is full of awesome energy!!!!!
You’d be a great caterer/party planner/entertainer. I’m sure. Your food and drinks look so yummy. I’m sure you’d have the personality to go with, as well. I’d have to know you better to know if I sound all stupid… Hopefully we’ll stay in blog touch;)

  • Kimberly June 10, 2014, 10:16 am

You have trained that dog well my friend.
    Go forth.
    Train them all.
Someone also makes a version of that ice cream. I think it is a pretzel concoction. Who knew salt and sweet could go together?
However, salty sweat and the sweetness of me…no bueno

  • Masanobu June 15, 2014, 2:14 pm

You should be proud of the #ExcitedFace pic – my sister never got our dog to even sit still long enough to take a normal one! I never even tried training.

All the food is looking yummy. It seems you had a great week! 🙂

  • choleslo June 19, 2014, 12:19 am

Today, I went to the beach with my children. I found a
sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.”
She placed the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this
is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!

    • Skye August 24, 2014, 2:24 pm

      That is an amazing story.

  • skippyranhome June 28, 2014, 9:11 am

I had NO idea when I woke up today, that I was going to discover the correct way to serve pineapple. You do know, that we’ll be connected forever now, or at least for 30 more years until I no longer possess the strength to do hors d’oeuvres.

  • Jenn - Doing Wheelies July 1, 2014, 1:39 pm

My pups only pose with food bribes, so I consider any photos without a training win.

  • Joeinvegas July 25, 2014, 10:56 am

I like the old Wonderwoman episodes, most impressed with that tiny waist.

  • Elisa V August 19, 2014, 6:24 pm

I am very excited to see you’re still blogging. You used to visit my eBay blog once upon a time – and I used to read your blog A LOT. I took a blogging hiatus but recently came back to the blogging world to open up about how much I enjoy yoga, even though I’m awkward as f*.

Naturally, this made me want to check in on you to see how you’re doing. Happy to see your blog is as awesome as ever.

  • Women's Dresses August 22, 2014, 3:31 pm

Thanks for sharing such a pleasant thought, piece
of writing is pleasant, thats why i have read it fully

  • Skye August 24, 2014, 2:25 pm

Hey! I’m offended! We’ve been to a vegetarian restaurant together, and I know you’ve been to Sunflower with the group. I see that it meant nothing to you.
