Frugality’s Revenge, Part 3

To summarize Part 1 & Part 2, I was stuck in College Park, Maryland, where my car had been towed, and I needed to get to a conference in Baltimore. I couldn’t pick my car up from the towing company, as technically the car belongs to my dad. I was hanging onto my sanity by my pinkie finger.

Lindsey, upon discovering my lack of a vehicle, and my need to reach Baltimore, immediately abandoned her plans and drove me into the city, even volunteering to drive down to Virginia to get my dad’s driver’s license.

How blessed am I?

Thankfully, I didn’t need to take advantage of her generosity.  After another call to the towing company, we discovered my dad could fax in a copy of his driver’s license and a note authorizing me to get the car.

Throughout the conference, half my mind was on my car. My poor, innocent, blue car. Does she feel abandoned? Is she scared? I hope she’s making friends with the other cars at the lot.

The conference ended. It was my moment of truth. Would I ever see my car again?  Lindsey again drove to the rescue, taking me to the towing company.

I’m not familiar with College Park, but Daniel lives near the University of Maryland, in a suburban area. After driving for fifteen minutes, which felt like an hour, it was clear the towing company was not located in the loftiest neighborhood.

There was no doubt it was a neighborhood. No shopping centers needed for this towing company, it was smack dab in the center of private homes, hidden down a long, dark road. As we slowly drove down the street we glanced at a large warehouse, with two men sitting out front on stools. “Is that a nightclub?” Lindsey asked. We pulled to the end of the street and turned around. Neither the warehouse nor the trailer had any signs, so we decided to park and investigate.

It’s in these situations that my paranoia that I’m destined to be horrifically murdered is a hindrance.

A man approached the car, and Lindsey rolled down her window. “Are you here for the club?” “No, my friend’s car was towed.” “Oh, okay, ’cause parking here is going to get crazy.” With that the man walked back toward the warehouse.

We left the car and tried the trailer, where a woman sat behind a desk watching Nick at Nite.

Ten minutes and one hundred and seventy-five dollars later, my car and I were reunited.

Less than twenty-four hours later, my Lumina would be towed again.

But that’s another story.

You know how we always say "that's ok, it makes a good story"? Thank you for being awesome and actually telling those stories! I just realized how amazing it would have been if we had blogs back in Tunisia. Can you retell some of those stories? Pretty please? <3

Ugh, so annoying to have that happen. And TWICE???!!! I live in perpetual fear of having my car towed (I live near Philly, where they are so famous for it they even have a reality show). I've paid mega-bucks to park in a garage just to be on the safe side!

Stopping by from SITS… Happy SITS Saturday Sharefest!
