Gerald, Explored

Gerald the groundhog.

He’s elusive yet playful.

He’s friendly yet shy.

He’s adorable yet stout.

Stuck in his groundhog ways of reserve and wariness toward humans, it’s often difficult to discern Gerald’s true feelings or learn of his recent experiences.

Still, I was shocked to hear tell that apparently Gerald has added a member to his household.

That’s right – there’s a baby Gerald.

I only hope he doesn’t become so involved with child-care and regurgitating worms for feedings (or is that another animal?) that he fails to take time to nurture our bond.

Don’t even suggest he’s Geraldine,

Megan

Gerald is the best groundhog name ever. Or chipmunk name. But definitely not a squirrel name.

Gerald is very handsome. I’m sure his offspring will be just as delightful as he is!

You must get a photo of baby Gerald. What’s wrong with Geraldine?

I am enjoying your Gerald posts. But… I regret to inform you that either Gerald is Geraldine, or has a Geraldine. :) Either way, I hope you stick with Gerald. It’s the perfect name.

My friend’s dad has had the same parrot for, like, 30 years. About five years ago, the parrot laid an egg. I forget what the parrot’s name is, but it’s something very masculine.
Her dad was so disappointed in the bird, he kept walking by the cage calling “him” a sissy for laying an egg.

Gerald is in good company.

Sounds to me you’re going to have your hands…(yard) full pretty soon.

I hope there’s a baby sighting soon!!!

And I’m sure Gerald isn’t really Geraldine. He’s just proving that groundhog parenting is not sexist. Daddies spend time with their kids too.

Gerald should have come to the Pond bbq!

It’s entirely possible that Gerald temporarily took up with an irresponsible lady-groundhog who has since run off and dumped the young’un on your friend. Kudos to him for manning up and being a responsible dad! =) I like groundhogs too… but don’t tell my neighbors because groundhogs like to eat stuff in their vegetable gardens and hence the humans always trying to catch/kill them. Yikes! Run, Gerald, run for your life!

Do you live in Virgina? I grew up in Virginia and now live in GA but whenever we go back to visit there is always one particular stretch of road where you see several groundhogs and that is about the only place I see them. They are so cute. I always have to check and see if they are there. Usually more likely early morning or late evening. I’ve even got my aunt checking for them now….
