Happy Birthday, Megan! (A Post by Skye)

Hi! Skye here.

Skye mustache

Or this stranger with a mustache.

It has long been my dream to hijack Megan’s blog for a day, but I suffer from a very severe case of laziness/procrastination.

(It’s just one of the many reasons we’re friends.)

Did you know that Sunday (December 9) was Megan’s 27th birthday?

(You might have known that on Sunday if I’d finished this post on time, but let’s not think about that.)

Megan's 26th birthday

Last year’s traditional birthday Shirley Temples (This year I went rogue and had sangria.)

In honor of this occasion, I’m sharing some of my very favorite things about Megan!

1. She shares her family with me.

The REAL Seamstress

Her mom actually calls us “my girls”. Isn’t that sweet?

2. She’s helped me move too many times to count, painted my room with me, and even finished painting without me. I repeat, Megan painted my trim alone, without complaint. More than once.

Painting Skye's Room

(Clearly I owe her, and therefore I will not complain about the many coats of paint I will help slather on her many, many walls.)

3. She came to doctor’s appointments and treatments with me when I had cancer.

Skye surgery

Who else would climb into my hospital bed and cheer me up with a CJane video?

(By the way, you readers were amazing in your comments on those posts. Thank you so, so much for your kind words. I still go back and read them.)

4. She documents my life for me, both on this blog and in her amazing Project Life album.

Because I’m even lazier and more behind at my own documentation.

5. There are so many things Megan has brought to my life that now I can’t imagine living without.

Like blogs.

And scrapbooking.

And petsitting Pearl and Monroe.

Pearl and Monroe

And silly photo shoots.

Pal'n Around

And one-day NYC road trips.

Project Life Week Nine

And Tuesday night variety shows.

And Black Friday shopping.

And New Year’s parties.

And being friends with Sharon.

Christmas 2011

Sharon’s the normal one. Obviously.

And being friends with Lindsey, Anna, Jeff, and Meredith. (Yep, I stole all those friends, too.)

holiday photo shoot 2011

Once again, we are the ones making weird faces. (And yes, I selected a photo with Allison but not Meredith. Just to confuse you.)

6. Finally, Megan and I share many strange habits and phobias, such as checking under the bed for murderers, avoiding death on bridges, and giving each other our passwords in case we die.

(Therefore allowing me to write this post.)

(Although I still had some issues logging in, explaining why this post was not up on Megan’s actual birthday and why I had to send her an embarrassing email ruining the surprise. Sigh.)

Skye's important passwords

These are my important passwords. I gave them to Megan the night before my cancer surgery. For some reason, her mom seemed to think this was morbid when it was clearly HILARIOUS.

I’m not sure whether this has ever been shared, but during the fall of our senior year of high school, we decided to take out a senior ad together in the yearbook. Except we hadn’t been friends long enough to rack up a list of inside jokes, so we just made them up.

Megan & Skye senior ad

Please don’t ask. We don’t understand it, either.

I can’t believe we’ve known each other for almost ten years! Megan, I hope you had a very happy birthday. I love you!

I also love that she has a tag called “Skye Rocks My Socks”

Love this!!! You both are awesome 🙂

Happy Birthday Megan! My favorite thing about you is undoubtedly the parentheses. The story behind the story adds so much dimension. (Not to mention it’s the part that is most prone to make me snort.)

Skye, when you are posting all those photos and links, it just takes time. It’s surprising you got this out before the first of the year. The two of you are almost too much cuteness for one little corner of cyberspace. ALMOST. 🙂

  • John (Daddy Runs a Lot) December 11, 2012, 11:22 am

Oh, how I love this post.

My favorite thing about Megan is still from BlogHer — after walking the long way around a crowd to avoid a dude in a cartoonish suit (because serial killer, obviously), Megan was talking about the party the previous night. While the party was called SparkleCorn, she kept on calling it SparkleCom. Someone in the group corrected her & Megan mentioned that she didn’t know why it was …corn instead of …com.

And then someone mentioned, to her, that it was because the party combined sparkles and unicorns, hence the name. And then there was a great big look of comprehension on Megan’s face . . . and the fact that she was wearing a unicorn horn all night, the previous night . . .

Anyway, that’s my favorite Megan memory.

And the password thing? Very important. Morbid, perhaps, but really freaking important.

      I love that Megan story!

Trolls. That’s my favorite BlogHer and Megan moment.

Happy Birthday Megan! My favorite thing about you is I can scrapbook vicariously thru you. I’m don’t have one drop of creative blood in my body and if I had to use scissors or any other sharp objects needed to scrapbook I wouldn’t have any blood in my body!!
    Skye, great tribute.

  • Cari December 11, 2012, 12:10 pm

    This is lovely.
The password swap is hilarious. My brother and his best friend have “in the case of my death, burn the secret files before my mom comes to clear out my apartment” protocols in place.

    Happy belated birthday!

    • Skye December 13, 2012, 11:26 am

I can’t believe we haven’t thought of that yet. We should get on that. You have no idea how much embarrassing stuff I own!

      • Allison December 14, 2012, 2:58 pm

haha, I just need a gmail deleting contingency plan.

  • Sarah December 11, 2012, 12:14 pm

Ummm, the fact that she is the only person on Earth who takes board games as seriously as I do. And that she can say the most inappropriate things with a straight face. And that I got to borrow her house all through college (but it makes me sad I have barely seen her since then, except for a glorious trip she made down here). And that she is one of the world’s most fabulously ridiculous people.

  • LDiggitty December 11, 2012, 1:45 pm

    Awwwww! Happy birthday, Megan!

And Skye, you are amazeballs. You two are the dream team of BFFs… ALMOST. I think me and my BFF could probably take you two out in an “Amazing Race” situation.

    • Skye December 13, 2012, 11:24 am

Haha, thank you. Bring it on! 😉

  • debby 'baro December 11, 2012, 2:19 pm

You are an amazing person Megan. I love your dynamic approaches to making life fun! Lastly, my daughters love you! 🙂

  • debby 'baro December 11, 2012, 2:24 pm

Oops!( 😮 )I forgot. And a very happy birthday to you in arrears.

  • Jennifer@browneyedandblessed December 11, 2012, 7:15 pm

Happy Belated Birthday Megan! Hope you had an awesome 27th birthday! You’ve got one great friend there who will hijack your blog and write of your awesomeness.

  • Jamie December 11, 2012, 9:07 pm

My favorite thing about Meghan is that even though I don’t know her, I feel like I do through her blog….that and what a wonderful human she seems to be. You are lucky to have her.

  • Christina December 11, 2012, 9:30 pm

Someone did mention this already, but I noticed it right away. You share a love of the parentheticals. (I’m sure this stuck out to me because I share the same love.) (Parentheticals are probably my favorite thing to use when writing.) (And this is even though the spellchecker insists that “parentheticals” is not a word.)
I love that Megan writes about her awkward moments. If we can’t laugh at ourselves in this life, we would be very sad individuals, indeed. And I am not making this up when I say I love her friendship with you, Skye. Your friendship makes me smile. I’d love a friend like that. For reals.
This was a wonderful post. Happy late birthday, Megan!

    • Skye December 13, 2012, 11:54 am

Aww, thank you! It makes me smile too 🙂

  • Keith December 11, 2012, 9:40 pm

My favorite thing about Megan is that when she smiles, she smiles with her whole face and everyone else around her is compelled to do the same.

  • Kari @ bite-sized thoughts December 11, 2012, 11:13 pm

Happy birthday Megan! And thanks to Skye for such a great post 🙂 It turns out I have a birthday 4 days before you but am 2 years older, which suddenly makes me feel old – largely because I have never painted walls and seem to have far fewer traditions than the two of you! I’ll have to work on that before I hit 30…

  • Mindee@ourfrontdoor December 12, 2012, 10:47 pm

    Where to start?
Her love of travel and the way she can find adventure anywhere.
    Her knack for spreading cheer.
    Her wittiness.
Her eventual road trip across the country where she’ll stop in Nebraska!

    • Skye December 13, 2012, 11:23 am

I can’t wait for that road trip! (She might not know it, but I’m totally coming.)

  • spilledinkguy December 13, 2012, 11:21 am

My favorite thing about Megan is that she can make ANYTHING funny. And in a very ‘warm’ kind of way (if that makes any sense).
    Happy birthday, Megan!!!

  • Misty December 13, 2012, 1:37 pm

Skye, you are the sweetest friend ever! You both are lucky to have each other. I have never had a friendship like yours, and am now insanely jealous. Got room for a third???? 😉

And HAPPPY BIRTHDAY, MEGAN!!!! (Ok, a little late. Sorry. Blame Skye). Hope you had a fabtabulous day full of friends, fun and festivities! HUGS.

  • Classic NYer December 13, 2012, 6:49 pm

I’m glad Skye picked up the slack, because I totally would have missed your birthday, Megan. (Of course, I didn’t know when it was before just now, but that’s hardly an excuse.) Happy Belated, my Awkward Friend!

  • Vicki @ Crowning Victoria December 14, 2012, 1:55 pm

Happy Belated Birthday!!! What a fabulous friend & friendship. You two are so lucky to share what you have with each other :)))

  • Allison December 14, 2012, 3:01 pm

Super adorable! Also, Megan, you look amazing in the picture with the guitar.

  • missy@What'sGoingOnHere December 17, 2012, 8:38 am

She epitomizes the phrase: “Be yourself– everyone else is taken”. I love it!

  • linda higgins December 17, 2012, 6:35 pm

I accidently came upon Megans blog a couple of years ago and have been a huge fan since. I prayed for you when I found out you had cancer. She is an amazing friend to you. We should all be so fortunate to have such a funny crazy friend. Cherish this friendship, I know you will. They are hard to come by now a day. I have 2 very close friends, if I were to be 27 again I think I would be as crazy as the 2 of you. Hmmm actually I was as crazy come to think of it. Crazy is good. Funny crazy that is. Laughter will cure anything. I think even cancer. And even if it doesn’t, it wouldn’t hurt to laugh about it right? I went through radiation therapy for 28 days because of tumors that were removed from a gland in my neck just below my ear. It has left a huge void there, but is an awesome conversation piece and I thank God every day for giving me the chance to laugh about it. Your a good friend. I hope the 2 of you always remain so. 🙂 I hope Megan doesn’t toss this blog to the wayside because blogs are getting to be hard to keep up. I so enjoy a good story and laugh…. Tell her thank you ok?

  • Melonie (Nagzilla) December 20, 2012, 3:59 pm

SO sorry! Due to the holidays and craziness I’m so far behind in reading my blogs. Happy belated birthday Megan!

Here’s what I love about Megan: She is so funny and not afraid to be silly in public. I love that she procrastinates, uses lots of parentheses, and is willing to share all that with the world. She also let me do my very first guest post ever, which was awesome. Still waiting for her to make a road trip to Minnesota to check our roller derby, Spoon Bridge with Cherry, and play some cards. Make sure she brings you along too, Skye! She’ll need a partner to learn Hand and Foot. 🙂

She is so lucky to have an awesome friend like you.
