Her Last Visit Home

In preparation for their wedding this coming weekend, Sharon and Dan have come down from Ohio.

So I took a break from my wedding preparations to help Sharon out with hers.

(That is, my preparations for Sharon’s wedding. I don’t have a wedding of my own to prepare. At least not that I know about.)

(I only need to finish the hem.)

(Yay.)

Naturally, the first step while packing is going through boxes of old notes.

I wrote that to Sharon during some high school class.

I’d show you what it says, but I’m too embarrassed.

And I don’t embarrass easily.

As you might have noticed.

But then we found Sharon’s high school journal.

And I didn’t feel as embarrassed anymore.

After their marriage Sharon and Dan are moving to Colorado, so Sharon decided to finally go through her childhood bedroom.

Soon it seemed prudent to take a Trivial Pursuit break.

And then a Wii bowling break.

I’m the guy on the furthest left.

(I won.)

(I did an wii-win-dance.)

(It was pretty hot.)

(No, no it wasn’t.)

Then it was back to work.

Laundry and sorting and taping and decision making.

Soon her bedroom will be empty, all of Sharon’s belongings in a van driving out West.

Her home will no longer be down the street, but with her husband.

I’m so happy for her.

But I’m just a little bit sad for me.

Time to get my big girl panties,

Megan

She is very, very nice to go through her belongings and take them with her. I’m sure her parents appreciate it. I left mine at my parents’ house. One day I woke up and they were on my doorstep. Colorado is too far for her parents to do that.

Aw, it seems like just three years ago (oh wait, it was) that I packed up my room in a very similar fashion. It was hard to go through all those notes.

But then my BFF and I broke up and now it doesn’t matter anymore and I hate those notes, so poo on her.

I’m mature. Always have been.

So often, prior to a wedding, there is craziness. It’s wonderful that you got to spend some quality time together and it looks like my kind of fun – games, we love them over here. Now get thee off to Victoria’s Secret for those BGP!

You are a very good friend for helping her to pack her room up like that. I’d be all “HA! Good luck with that. If you need me, I’ll be in the living room, watching a Jersey Shore marathon and swearing at the TV. And maybe weeping a little. And by ‘if you need me’ I clearly mean leave me alone”.

Also, what is she doing with that there writing desk? Is she taking that writing desk with her? My, that is a very lovely writing desk. #writingdeskenvy

Where’s Clippy when you need him? “It looks like you’re packing things. Would you like help with that?”

Ugh, cleaning up the childhood bedroom is the worst! Mine is only partially done and I’ve been married for three years. I should probably finish it at some point. But it’s just so sad.. :(

I like the old desk and the dollhouse I can see in the background

But, just think of all the visits you can make to their new place!

Oh, get me trying to be some kind of optimist.

Who am I kidding? I cling onto the past with super-glue drenched claws, blinded by rose-coloured glasses. Damn nostalgia. It ruins everything :(

Ah, turn another page, start another chapter. Exciting? Yes. Bittersweet, though, too, I’d say…

Man, that is always hard…lucky for me I drew it out a little bit with law school and all and moving home to study for the bar. I still have some of my stuff…old notes and things I drew in high school. Oh, those were the days…

I was kinda hoping you’d share the contents of some of those notes. Bummer…

I had to go through all of my childhood stuff when I moved from my childhood house to my mom’s new place. It was weird and sad. However, then I was only moving 30 minutes away, not getting married and moving halfway across the country. It’s awesome you get to spend this time with Sharon before goes to Colorado!

It can be so much fun and at the same time so bittersweet to go through your old childhood things.

It’s all becoming very real.

And it’s nice to see the happy couple even synchronized their scores on Wii bowling. When you get the same score, you know you’re meant to be together.

Oh wow! I love that photo of the note! Can you believe how much time we spent as kids writing notes to each other. I remember my friend’s and I used to have “notebooks” and we were so worried people would find them we talked in code. I tried to read through one once and literally could not understand what we were talking about because it was so shrouded in code names. What fun!

I have a box of notes like that. It’s crazy to think of all the time that has passed since high-school. It’s really weird cause I don’t feel 25+5. It can’t be!! It just can’t!!

:-)
