“You were such a dork in high school.”
Dan made this proclamation to Sharon in the midst of our reminiscing, as we were digging through boxes of old letters and memorabilia.
As Dan is days away from pledging himself to Sharon for eternity, I shudder to think of what people without such love will think after reading my letter.
But I’m a blogger.
So it’s my natural inclination to share my embarrassment with the world.
Thoughts about my high school self:
1. I used “lol” far too often.
2. I knew Cary Grant was incredibly sexy.
3. I embraced the run-on sentence.
4. I couldn’t remember anybody’s (especially guy’s) names.
5. I guess some things never change.
“Wait, what about that drawing I saw?” you’re asking.
There are no words.
Don’t worry if you’re judging me.
I’m judging myself,
Megan

So? How did it work out with Sharon and Conner?
I recently scanned in some notes written by or to myself during my younger years — and passed them on to their respective authors / recipients years later. ’twas fun…
Haha, I have files of letters just like this. I used to write them all the time, hehe!! They are fun to go back and read though, you have to admit
so… lol wasn’t even invented when I was in high school & I still refuse to use it. I am excited about the upcoming wedding even though I don’t know Sharon or Dan… or you for that matter. (haha)
love your blog even though I’ve never commented before ♥
I’m with KJ on the lol thing – probably the person who invented it wasn’t even born yet when I was in high school. I really hope none of the notes I wrote is floating around out there in the world, waiting to shame me but I was voted “person who passes the most notes” in the 6th grade so the odds don’t look good for me.
Funny that y’all kept these notes over the years. As a high school teacher, I relish confiscating notes and reading them to the class out loud…
Instead of this post making me laugh at you (and believe me, I want to), it has only served to point out that I am OLD. I mean, LOL hadn’t even been invented when I was in high school. And while most people’s families had computers, I don’t think anybody (at least none of the high schoolers) used them to keep in touch with people via email.
And back then we still had to rip the hole-punched sides off our printer paper. (This is going to become my generation’s “I had to walk to school uphill both ways!”)
Life was so difficult back then.
I almost spat my tea all over the place when I saw the fat stick figure. Good thing I’d just swallowed the mouthful I had otherwise I may have spat tea everywhere.
Yeah that’s right, I’m a man who drinks tea. Now it’s your turn to judge me.
Ha, I love it! My sister still has my notes from high school that I sent her…I was in German 3 at the time so I would randomly start writing in German (which she knew, too) and man did I have a potty mouth back then too! Oh memories…
I have a file folder full. They are hidden and will remain so until my kids are past high school age so that they can’t use recorded evidence of my idiocy to justify their own.
But good for you!
In high school I wrote in nothing but purple ink. I had dozens of those pens at any given time. Couldn’t use the term lol… Al Gore had not yet invented the internet.
God help me if I could find those high school notes. I was SUCH a dork back then!
You’re not alone.
I’ve burned all of my old notes. Or, my old boyfriends have, I’m sure. I hope they have. Maybe I should look into this. Now, I’m nervous. Thanks, BOFates. I need a xanax.
At first I read this too quickly and thought you were suggesting you burned your old boyfriends. And that would be a story in itself.
I like your stick figures
I remember high school. Vaguely. I once had to dissect a pterodactyl in biology class.
I wish I had passed notes more in high school
You are far braver than I. I think I destroyed my high school correspondence in a right-minded purge. Too humiliating for words.
PS – Damn right, Cary Grant is a hottie. Was. Still is, via DVD.
Oh, Megan! I love all your Megan-ness, notes included! Have a great time this weekend!
Apparently you were also “very very happy” too!
(See?!?!?! I’m commenting!!!) And we were ALL nerds/dorks in high school. But that’s what made and continues to make us super awesome.
I LOVE reminiscing through old High School stuff! Don’t you just love these old notes we find!?! So funny.
Thanks for stopping by Life as a CEO – hope to “see” ya around again soon!!
I came across boxes of notes that look identical to that one when cleaning out a closet a couple years ago. It was like a train wreck!
HAHA now I’m really sad because did we write each other notes? I think maybe sometimes but I can’t imagine where one might be. Mostly I think we wrote to each other in the margin of our notes in McStratus’s class and thankfully I have never gotten rid of a notebook or binder so one day when I clean the junk room maybe I will find some awesome notes!!
Like I said…you are SO brave!!
Megan
i spent too much time trying to look cool while feigning indifference. i was awkward. i was, possibly, a deep down dork who denied myself the joy of embracing dorkdom. nobody called me a dork because because i took offence at everything.
one day, years after leaving high school, i decided to forgive myself for all the mean things i said, all the stupid things i did when i was a teen– because i didn’t know better. i wasn’t emotionally equipped to be mature.
why blame someone for things they knew nothing about?
so share your embarrassment with the world- we’ve all been there. it is part of who we are.
anyway, you’re cooler now than you were in high school, right? right?
Love reading old notes from high school. No matter how cool you were back in the day, we’re all dorks looking back.
Happy Monday!
Lots of yummy love,
