Remember this crazy-in-love, engaged couple?
Sharon and Dan met.
Sharon and Dan fell in love.
Sharon and Dan got engaged.
Megan needs a bridesmaid dress.
It’s the natural order of things.

Sharon is taking the laid-back, everything’s groovy style of wedding management, and letting the bridesmaids pick their own dresses.
Well, with two caveats.
1. The dress needs to be lavender.
2. It needs to be knee length. (It wouldn’t do to have the bridesmaid dresses longer than the bride’s.)

Fueled by my mom and unfounded optimism, Skye and I have decided that rather than buying our dresses, we’re going to sew them.

That’s right, we’re making our dresses from scratch.
Watch out world.

I found a lovely lavender linen.
Skye found a shiny chartreuse satin.
Actually, it’s not chartreuse. I just like saying chartreuse.

For $28 I now own the rudiments of a bridesmaid dress.
Stay tuned for coming hilarity, as I discover I don’t know how to sew.
Still pleasantly delusional,
Megan

I am in awe of your abilities, as I cannot sew a straight line. Is that the pattern you are using? I like it. Which of the pictured looks are you going for?
I am impressed. We ordered my bridesmaids dresses from JCrew as I’m intimidated by patterns
Awe, I missing sewing. I haven’t done it in so long, I’ve forgotten how to wind a bobbin. Serious stuff. That and how to actually thread my machine. I think it’s been 5-6 years since the last time I’ve sewn something together. Okay, I’m going to quit typing because the realization of that is making me depressed. Ha ha. Can’t wait to see your dress!
OH to have a sewing machine. Best of luck to you!
Oooh, linen! Fun! Pre-washing’s a pain, but it really does help. Good luck and have fun!
I would have gotten the pink fabric with sparkles.
I can’t wait!!! Your mom is so awesome, she won’t let them turn out badly. Plus we can always buy some ridiculously large brooches to cover any problem spots. It’ll add to the grooviness.
I can’t wait to see what you and Skye’s dresses will look like – I bet they’ll look super awesome!
Oh my gosh!!! I love it!!! You guys are top notch friends! Can’t wait to see how things go. I wish I could be there.
It’s so funny that you wrote this post! I was just thinking about how I need to dust off the old sewing machine and start making some fabulous clothing for myself and my little dude. He desperately needs some sweet tie-dyed pants, right? Hey, he’s not in school yet, so I don’t have to be cautious about ridicule. And until then, that kid is totally wearing hippie-chic stuff. I love being the mom.
=) Hahahaha, that’s great! I’m sure you guys will figure out how to make lovely dresses. You’ve got a few months; I know you can do it. Can’t wait to see the finished products =)
Thanks for visiting my blog. I really enjoyed reading your posts here. I’m looking forward to seeing how your dress looks when it’s finished. Sending smiles and glitter.
Good luck with the sewing. I can sew anything BUT clothes….if I try to make clothes, I end up with a mess.:) We did make our bridesmaids dresses, though; yes, my husband helped me….LOL. Stopping by from SITS.:)
I LOVE sewing!! I had trouble reading patterns when I first started (my job at the time required I learn) and I would just make up my own steps for how I thought it went together. 5 years later I still don’t do collars because I hate sewing them and I still make up my own steps but it always looks pretty!
Good luck and thanks for coming to visit today!
