Joyfully Resigned

It’s a nice dress.

If I saw it hanging on a rack in a store, I’d throw it over my arm.

Trying it on in the dressing room, I’d tilt my head and consider the possibilities.

Then I’d put it back.

The bosom doesn’t lay perfectly and my thighs look too large.  Small details I’d focus on before moving on, seeking out perfection in another heap of fabric.

If I’d come across it in a store, I’d choose another dress.

But this dress…

This is the dress I found at JoAnn Fabrics, leafing through a pattern book.

The dress I cut out, and pinned, and sewed together.

The dress I cried over and shouted with laughter over, in turn.

The dress I wore for Sharon’s wedding.

And I’m glad.

I think Grammy would be proud,

Megan

You did a wonderful job! The dress is beautiful and you look fantastic in it. Yes, your Grandma would be proud.

You are a vision in lilac. And if I had tried to make that dress, I would have been mistaken for the love-child of a jordan almond and something from The Mummy Returns. So you are bloody awesome in my book. And you look even awesomer.

Am diggin’ that grecian goddess dress, too. That’s a cool thing to be a bridesmaid in.

We’re always our harshest critics–I think the dress looks great and you all look so happy :)

Honestly, I’m so impressed. I couldn’t do it and I think it came out so lovely and your hair looked very pretty.
It’s great that everyone wore a different dress, reflecting their own personality but tied together with the color. Nice.
Any granny would be proud!

Megan you did a wonderful job! I think it is so wonderful to sew, (I dabble here and there) but to be able to put on a dress and say, “I made this” is awesome! Plus….it adorns your darling figure! hugs….(from a mom friend) linda

Hi again Megan,

Just wanted to say sorry you can’t enter my giveaway. You can follow through google connect. I couldn’t really figure out how to follow you either since you aren’t on blogger. Just saw the email thing, which would take more time than just popping over here every day (which I do so enjoy). Don’t worry, I alternate my giveaways between followers and everyone. The next one will be wide open for you, no matter who you follow and since I make and sell jewelry – it will probably be similar to the current giveaway.
Thanks for commenting anyway.

That is such a pretty dress on you, Megan. Equally impressive … it was not store-bought! Thanks for dropping by. :) Somehow Smokey The Bear did make it to Canada. His message crosses borders and hopefully will live forever!

She would be proud! One day, I’ll learn to sew. Until then, I’ll continue to say “well I sort of made it… Megan’s mom made it, really.. I cut out all the pieces!”

So very nice to meet you! Your grammy would be so very happy to see you in that sweet lilac dress. My grandma was a seamstress and made me many pretty dresses. Wonderful that you conquered this pattern and look so very pretty in the dress. Good for you. All the photos are nice.

That looks like a great handmade dress. Anything I made would probably look like a nasty rag with a lot of safety pins stuck in it… You’re awesome! How did you do it?

Cute dress! I think you did a great job! And I love your hair by the way, too!

C’mon, it’s beautiful. Your next mission, should you choose to accept it, is to sew a vermillion tuxedo.

Reply

Megan August 4, 2010

I’m weirdly tempted to try that, if only for the hilarity that would ensue.

I never wear dresses. OK, not true. I wear dresses to weddings. I haven’t been to a wedding since 2007, though. So maybe I’m not the authority on dresses and other things not made of denim. But you and your dress look gorgeous. Please tell the dress I said that. Unless you’ve already taught the dress to read. And if anyone could teach a dress to read it’d be you. You’re that good.

Reply

ScoMan August 4, 2010

I think the dress looks good. I’d never wear it myself, but you did well.

Reply

Megan August 4, 2010

Are you sure?

Because I’ve heard lavender brings out the joy in your eyes.

Or something similar.

Okay, you know we like the dress on you. You have to believe this many opinions. But your hair, too, is gorgeous. Of all the members of the wedding who are sitting on the stairs? Yours is the prettiest hair. I really liked that, in that shot, you haven’t tucked it behind your ears, yet . . .

Reply

Sara August 9, 2010

I think you look gorgeous! And nobody ever wears those bridesmaid dresses a second time anyway.

Way to go Megan! It looks great and I’m sure your Grammy would bust at the seams with pride!!

Sorry…couldn’t help myself again!
