This is Maggie. She was my childhood best-best-bestest friend.

We did everything together.

In every birthday photo, she’s sitting beside me.

Also in setting up the Christmas tree photos.

She was the normal one, even then.

WHAT was on my face?
What was I doing?
The world may never know.

We were in the same dance classes.

And though she was a year older, and therefore in a higher grade, we always walked to school together.

Well, until middle school, when she moved away.
Not far away.
Just into a different subdivision.
But it was really hard.
I had always looked to Maggie for what to do.
Even though we went to different high schools, we stayed friends.
She went to a small college in Virginia, and after graduation she moved across the country to California.
Looking through my photos the other day, it reminded me of how close we were.
We even went to MAD camp together.
Appropriate, huh? Well, it stood for Music and Drama.
It was a camp through Maggie’s church and we did a play about the Moses and the plagues, and gathered at chapel every night and passed out rocks and sang One Tin Soldier.
It was very hippyesque, and quite campy.
Get it, campy?
I’m sorry.
It was at this camp that Maggie met Jon.
And in less than two months, they will be married.
And just like when she moved away, we’re still gonna be friends.
It’s going to be different.
But I’m ready for that.
