Me vs. Wind

October 10, 2008

Today, my mother’s worst nightmare came true.

As out of the blue as it sounds, my mom spends quite a lot of her time worrying about my dress flying up.

Today is quite windy.

You see where this is going.

Walking across the parking lot on my way back from lunch, my skirt flew up. I’m wearing a poofed skirt today, with a built in slip, so I couldn’t tell whether both had come up all the way, or only the outside cover.

Either way, I frantically looked around the parking lot, and the only person in sight was a man about thirty feet to my right talking on his cell phone. He didn’t appear to have noticed, but he might have started paying attention as I walked, with my purse and lunch bag in my hands, keeping both clasped to my sides.

I hoped this would keep my skirt glued to my sides, though looking back it might have drawn more attention to myself.

Thankfully, this worked, and outside of looking stupid, I had saved my virtue.

But would I be telling you this story if that is where it ended?

There I was, home free, when I decided to be polite and wait and hold the door open for the man behind me, the one from the parking lot.  As soon as I lifted my arm and opened the door, there went my skirt, from my knees to my armpits in a blink.

Guess it is just one of those days.
