My Turtle, Affectionately Known As Yertle

September 22, 2011

Yurtle the Turtle

My office has owl statues stationed at every entrance to keep out the snakes.

That’s one of the downsides of working in the middle of the woods.

One of the upsides is the adorable creatures I encounter daily.

And then proceed to stalk.

Yurtle the Turtle

Like Yertle. He’s my hometurtle.

Yurtle the Turtle

He enjoys hanging in his shell, affectionately nipping friends and family and long walks on the street.

It’s the last one that’s going to get him in trouble one of these days.

But Yertle doesn’t care.

‘Cause he’s a rebel.

Yurtle the Turtle

You can see it in his eyes.

Did you know Yertle the Turtle was suppose to symbolically represent Adolf Hitler?

At least according to Wikipedia

So that’s an interesting, possibly true fact to start off your Thursday

You’re welcome,

Megan

EDIT: Spilled Ink Guy, you were totally right – Yertle was just aching to be mustache-d.

I just don’t see it.
I mean, he doesn’t even have a tiny blue mustache…

Edited to include tiny blue mustache.

Hilarious!
Yertle rocks that tiny blue mustache pretty hard!

Normally I don’t consider turtles to be the cutest of animals, but I’m just so glad not to see the poo anymore that I think Yertle is ADORABLE.

Just when I think you can’t top cats in bowls with mustaches… You totally redeem yourself with blue mustaches on turtles!

You’re the best, Meg.

Just the best.

After you stalked him, did you move him out of the street and onto the grass? I fear for Yertle. He’s too adventerous for his own good and headed straight for that storm drain.

Yertle is my absolute favorite Dr Seuss book – so thanks for bringing it to mind!

Another possibly true fact: I think I read one time that box turtles are actually tortoises. (I tried looking it up just now but the internet let me down!) But Yortoise the Tortoise doesn’t have the same ring to it, so I understand why they prefer to be called turtles.

I guess Yertle has never heard of turtle soup. It could shorten his life expectancy. That and being roadkill…

Where can I get me a turtle? Especially a mustached one…

When I go on a “long” bike ride, I always catch a turtle crossing the road at the same point. And it’s always the same turtle. Some would say that this turtle simply has found a great place for sunning that barely ever has any car traffic, but I know better. It simply heads out waiting for me to bike on by. Because I’m it’s best friend.

It must be, right?

Yertle stay away from that drain…there is a bad clown in there named Pennywise.

If Yertle turns out to be a girl, I vote for the name Meshell Ndegeocello.

Megan September 29, 2011

Um, are you insinuating I don’t my turtle genders.

‘Cause we all have our callings.

And, well, I think determining gender by glance may be one of them.

(Not in humans though, that’s just hard.)

I’m seriously jealous of you – you being able to work in the middle of the woods :( The city live is just not for me …. please come and rescue me.

Holy crap.

I need to go re-read ALL my Dr. Seuss now.

What a great name for a turtle. Does he like dandelions? My friend has a Greek land tortoise who’s just crazy for them.

That Yertle, he’s a turtle about town – wish we had a turtle to stalk, there are some random ducks around where we live from a nearby park, not as charming somehow…

Emmy September 23, 2011

Had no idea about Hitler-weird. He is a cute little guy–though he does look like he is up to no good

I’ve been looking, but you can never find a good turtle when you need one.

cute! A friend of mine has a turtle named simply, “Lady Turtle”

Reply

Megan September 29, 2011

Ooh, I actually quite like that name. And I think Yurtle would be quite fond of Lady Turtle.
