Grammy loved butterflies. She drove a special needs school bus for over forty years. Her apple pie was delicious. When I turned 16, she spent weeks helping me search to find the perfect hope chest, then bought it. Her grades got her a college scholarship, but she didn’t take it because her father didn’t approve of girls being educated. Her favorite subject in school was math. Her dad was a Teamster, and by the time she was a teenager she could park semis. She sewed my aunt’s wedding dress, including tatting all the lace. After voting in eighteen presidential elections, she broke even with nine of her choices winning. She was a voracious reader of mysteries and had whole notebooks where she kept track of what books she’d already read. She was a fantastic grandma, and I miss her.
