This Is A Cat In A Bowl

DSC_7665

Some days I spend stumbling around jail.

Some days I shoot zombies named Bob.

Some days I get so high on cheese I go a little bit crazy and make up a new dance craze.

That last one hasn’t really happened.

Yet.

DSC_7660

But other days I spend pet sitting for old family friends.

And on those days I just relax.

DSC_7661

And amuse myself with a cat, sitting in a bowl.

What’s made you smile today?

Megan

Gorgeous kitty!!!! I would love to lounge around in a bowl all day. That sounds wonderful. Instead…today, I cleaned up barf. YES…AGAIN. Wanna trade places?

    • Megan January 8, 2011, 12:00 am

You and your obsession with bodily fluids!

  • nursemyra January 7, 2011, 1:53 am

What made me smile today? I saw an old lady wearing men’s board shirts, fluffy slippers and a Hello Kitty t-shirt. Par for the course at the Gimcrack.

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:58 pm

It’s always the Hello Kitty shirt that brings outfits together.

      That or bow ties.

  • kyknoord January 7, 2011, 5:27 am

Cat in a bowl: the ultimate still-life.

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:54 pm

Now to find this generation’s Picasso and have this painted!

  • Anna January 7, 2011, 7:07 am

I want a bowlful of kittypants, and I want to kiss it on its furry noggin. Even though it’ll give me hives.

  • alyson:common sense, dancing January 7, 2011, 8:32 am

Although I am a big Doodle dog person, and decidedly NOT a cat person, I love me some cat in a bowl. I love me a cat in a bowl with that bored expression especially.

Pardon me while I try to go cram one of my Doodles in a coffee mug.

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:54 pm

      Photographic evidence required!

  • Jen January 7, 2011, 8:51 am

Perrrr-fect. Cat in the bowl. 😉

  • Molly January 7, 2011, 8:57 am

What’s REALLY freaky is this cat looks like s/he could be the twin of one of The Swede’s mentally unbalanced cats.

    Spitting image.

DEAR GOD THERE ARE TWO OF THEM.

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:52 pm

      AND THEY’RE STALKING YOU!

      Or maybe not.

      Hard to tell.

  • Kristin @ Peace, Love and Muesli January 7, 2011, 9:03 am

Ha! Our cat used to hang in a bowl. A big wooden one. My mom should hand the bowl down to my sister’s kitten. It really is perfect for cats.

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:52 pm

There’s such a perfect relationship between cats and bowls – I had no idea!

  • Skye January 7, 2011, 9:28 am

Now I know what I should have gotten Jazz for Christmas! I hope she’s not reading this and getting jealous.

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:51 pm

Um, I actually heard Jazz talking and she did not approve of missing out on cat bowls.

  • Nush January 7, 2011, 10:08 am

Love the pics! Cats (animals in general) can always make me smile. Think they have living down to a tee.

    • Nerdyredneck Rob January 7, 2011, 9:45 pm

“Think they have living down to a tee.”

Well, a critical step in the development of any civilization is domesticating animals. So once cats domesticated humans and made us build them a civilization they have had it pretty good. 😉

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:51 pm

Living happily the moment, sometimes in a bowl – now that’s the life!

  • Stephanie @ Our Marriage Adventure January 7, 2011, 10:09 am

Don’t we effectively have the same thing for people, ‘cept we call them Papasan Chairs. And they are comfy. And nap inducing.

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:50 pm

      Ah, human bowls.

      Comfy.

  • Natalie January 7, 2011, 10:26 am

    Sometimes I wish I was a cat.

I love the look in his face in the last picture. It reminds me of The Business.

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:50 pm

There is a resemblance to the Business! That look is taking over the world.

  • jeanette from everton terrace January 7, 2011, 10:31 am

The same thing that makes me smile every day, my husband – he’s very funny. I love how cats can laze about like no other, makes me jealous. I once had a cat named Clyde, he was great, our dog Jake didn’t like him quite as much.

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:49 pm

      Sweetest response ever.

  • Mindee@ourfrontdoor January 7, 2011, 10:31 am

I love cats. I love that they sit in bowls and stare at you like you are the one with the problem. I actually had a cat that looked just like that one. Now I miss her. Way to go Megan.

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:49 pm

Thus my attempt at happiness ends in tragic nostalgia.

      As usual.

  • Mrs.Mayhem January 7, 2011, 10:50 am

    Your post made me smile!

If it were possible to get high on cheese, then I would perpetually be in rehab.

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:44 pm

      Ah, the cheese high.

      An elusive, yet worthy goal.

  • Casey January 7, 2011, 10:56 am

    This did! Such a punkin.

  • mindy@thesuburbanlife January 7, 2011, 11:02 am

Well, that last picture certainly gave me a grin. This morning before school, my 7 year old asked me what my job is, and being that I’ve been a stay-at-home-mom for 4 1/2 years I was about to reply with a sarcastic remark when my 4 year old son beat me to the punch. “Her JOB is to get me some oatmeal…where’s my breakfast?” Nice, huh? Needless to say, that was the loooooongest cooking oatmeal ever. 🙂

HILARIOUS! Now that one is trouble!

  • Life of a Doctor's Wife January 7, 2011, 11:46 am

Just when I thought your blog couldn’t get any better, you added CAT PHOTOS.

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:40 pm

Hey, I heard the people crying out!

  • Ashley, the Accidental Olympian January 7, 2011, 11:46 am

    Mission accomplished. Smiles for all!

  • angie January 7, 2011, 12:10 pm

    Now that’s the life.
    🙂

    Made me smile.

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:35 pm

I think we’ve all wished we spent nights curled into a bowl.

It’s the third most common American dream, after winning the lottery and marrying Halle Berry.

  • Pickles & Dimes January 7, 2011, 1:39 pm

    This post made me smile.

  • Big Daddy January 7, 2011, 1:52 pm

I too like to relax by sitting in a bowl. Of course it is a very large bowl. Usually filled with mustard. That’s not weird, right?

    • Nerdyredneck Rob January 7, 2011, 9:52 pm

Hell yeah that’s weird! Mustard? What is wrong with you!? Mustard is kinda abrasive and the vinegar stings whereas mayonnaise is soooo smooooooth and creamy and sooooothing!

    • Nerdyredneck Rob January 7, 2011, 10:15 pm

Mustard? MUSTARD! Well hell yeah that is weird! What is wrong with you? Mustard is mildly abrasive and the vinegar stings!

Mayonnaise is smoooooth and creamy and ooooooh so soooothing. Freak!

      • Anonymous January 7, 2011, 10:16 pm

I even shut the browser down and restarted it before I typed all that again! Grrrrr. Sorry for the double post

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:31 pm

Anybody who’s anybody knows bowls are best filled with ketchup.

      I mean, really.

      • Nerdyredneck Rob January 8, 2011, 12:31 am

What is it with you people and vinegar! 😉

  • Kristina January 7, 2011, 2:53 pm

Ok, I’m a new(ish) reader and I just wanted to say that you crack me up. That is all. Also-a cat in a bowl? I’m not a big cat person (please don’t hate me) but I totally want this cat, in his bowl, sitting on my dining room table.

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:27 pm

Don’t worry – I’m not a cat person either! But there’s nothing like a cat sitting in a bowl to change a person’s mind!

  • Holly W January 7, 2011, 3:33 pm

out at lunch today my baby spent a good 10 minutes working out a big poop…very loudly, grunting and farting included…to the horror of our nearby diners…
    I’m a horrible person…because that? is so funny…

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:21 pm

Then I’m equally horrible, because I laughed aloud reading your story – I think that would have been hilarious!

  • Lindsey January 7, 2011, 5:39 pm

I’m continually perplexed and enchanted by this cat’s fixation on that glass bowl. And her shunning of other, morer fluffy places to rest.

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:19 pm

What can she say? She’s a bowl cat!

  • Sorta Southern Single Mom January 7, 2011, 6:36 pm

I’m home sick today…. so not smiling much, but my cat and I did nap together on the couch and when I woke up and saw him on my lap all twisted upside down in the way only a cat could sleep comfortably, it did make me smile!

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:19 pm

Nothing like a pet to brighten a bad day!

  • Missy Jill January 7, 2011, 7:09 pm

THIS made me smile. Not much else today, it was Clean the House Day. OH- I did make the perfect Buttermilk Biscuit recipe. That made me smile. Also your jail story. OH- I just spent 20 minutes trying to nominate you for Best Kept Secret and also Best Writing. It wouldn’t go through. It’s those code words I can’t get right, dash-it-all! But I tried!

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:17 pm

Ooh – that sounds delicious. You should share!

(And thank you – it was incredibly sweet of you to try.)

  • Katie January 7, 2011, 7:27 pm

HA! Our cat use to do the same thing! : ) Very cute!

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:16 pm

Good to know it’s a intrinsic cat need – to lay in a bowl!

  • liz January 7, 2011, 7:51 pm

you would think sheer comfort alone would make that lazy cat get out of that bowl!

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:04 pm

I can only assume it’s incredibly comfortable in there – even as it shifts all around – as she’s *always* climbing into it!

  • UP January 7, 2011, 8:14 pm

Cat in a bowl; this is why I never eat in a Chinese restaurant where I can’t see the kitchen.

    UP

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:03 pm

No! That cat won’t be eaten – not on my watch!

  • Shell January 7, 2011, 9:30 pm

Such a cute kitty. I had to give mine to my brother when I had my second baby b/c my cat hated babies.

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 11:03 pm

Well, that seems like a worthy trade!

  • Nerdyredneck Rob January 7, 2011, 10:22 pm

    1) your blog makes me smile.

    2) Is that a male cat? You know men like sitting on bowls too but generally with reading material so if he is male then its not toooo surprising.

    • Megan January 7, 2011, 10:53 pm

Aw, thanks! And Purrl the cat is female!

  • Christina January 7, 2011, 10:55 pm

Knowing my daughter is in New York City enjoying the snow and a show (Mary Poppins) makes me smile.
    Also…you do. 🙂
    See?

    • Megan January 8, 2011, 12:14 am

You’ll have to tell me what she thinks of Mary Poppins – I haven’t seen that one!

  • Galit Breen January 8, 2011, 12:30 am

Love. It. YOU made me smile. Laugh. And maybe (Just maybe.) spit out my wine. But just a ‘lil bit. 🙂

    • Megan January 8, 2011, 6:57 pm

You do spit-takes in your family?

      *Envy*

  • erin margolin January 8, 2011, 11:14 am

I love it! And your table runner underneath made me smile today—-where’d you get that pretty thang?

    😉

    • Megan January 8, 2011, 6:50 pm

As it’s my friend’s I sadly don’t know – but it is gorgeous, right? I’m quite envious, as I’m dreadful at decorating!

  • Ellen January 8, 2011, 6:18 pm

It was so nice to see purrl. Hope you are feeling as cosy as she is.

    • Megan January 8, 2011, 6:32 pm

Oh yes – Skye is in awe of your home! And you’re probably going to get requests over where you purchased your lid holder.

(And we’re totally eating all your food – I hope that’s okay!)

  • Glamamom January 8, 2011, 7:05 pm

That is one good looking cat!

    • Megan January 19, 2011, 5:38 pm

Isn’t it? It’d tell her, but she’s already got quite the arrogance problem!

  • JenniferH. January 9, 2011, 9:26 am

Well, these pictures made me smile today, that’s for certain. I am a total cat lover. Thank you for stopping by and leaving me a comment. I have enjoyed reading what you are doing over here.

    • Megan January 19, 2011, 5:38 pm

If you love cats, then you gotta love cats in bowls.

  • alonewithcats January 9, 2011, 10:56 pm

I’ve wrapped my cats in cellophane on more than one occasion, but never once thought to encourage them to sit in my serving dishes.

    I’m slipping, Megan.

Teva and Isabel better be well rested, because when I get home, it’s totally bowl time.

    • Megan January 19, 2011, 5:39 pm

      BOWL TIME!

I’m expecting photographic proof of this.

  • trinity January 9, 2011, 11:47 pm

I’m actually a dog person but loved this post. I mean, sitting still in a bowl is just not something a dog can do! At least not my ill-trained crazy dogs.

    • Megan January 19, 2011, 5:39 pm

Bowl sitting is one of those situations where cats just kick dogs butts – but I’m actually a dog person myself!

  • Lori @ In Pursuit of Martha Points January 11, 2011, 11:54 am

    My cats sleep in sinks.

We’ve yet to capture it in a picture.

    He looks so comfy.

Maybe I should sleep in a bowl.

    • Megan January 19, 2011, 5:39 pm

Hey, all you need is a big bowl and a dream.

      A beautiful dream.
