Tweety Tacky

June 16, 2010

Tweety Big

While making the bridesmaid dresses for Sharon’s wedding my mind keeps conjuring this image.

It was the first outfit I ever made.

Well, it might be more accurate to say Grammy made it.

She helped me buy the fabric, cut it out, and sew it together.

She answered my endless questions about why various shortcuts wouldn’t work.

She fixed my mistakes.

But don’t blame her for the result.

TheĀ florescent-pink-Tweety-Bird-fabric, the strangely inappropriate style, the tacky-ness, that’s all me.

Tweety Outfit

In fact, I was so in love with this outfit that I wore it everywhere.

Making bridesmaid dresses, I remember how proud I was of that outfit, and how much fun I’d had making it with Grammy.

Sadly, while Grammy’s gone, my terrible taste in clothing remains.

Sharon should probably be overseeing our work,

Megan

p.s.~ I have no explanation for my expression in these photographs. Clearly, I was somewhat disturbed as a child.

I don’t find the design itself all that bad but yes, the fabric is a tad . . . vibrant.

The important thing is the togetherness with your Grammy and the pride of accomplishment. :)

Pretty durn attractive. And you know what the most important thing is? That you made it yourself and that you were so, so proud!

I think Grammy’s are programmed to be unconditionally loving in ways that preclude them from objecting to dresses in tweety-bird fabric.

It is part of their Grammy charm.

That is certainly multiple shades of awesome. Especially the hem job at the bottom.

Most of the designers at the Oscars don’t have that kind of creativity. :)

It’s almost as if little-tweety-tacky-loving you knew that one day these duds would make for an embarrassingly awesome blog post. What I’m saying is you had incredible foresight as a child. I mean, I didn’t even have cats as a kid. I’ve come along way. But you? You were already there.

Do you still have that dress? If so then you really have one less dress to make, it is perfect for a wedding. Now if you can just find more of that fabric for the rest of the girls….

P.S. I posted some new pictures of Lily our Puggle for you…

HAHAHAHAHAHAAA. I think your expressions are A+ in these. Please try to mimic them in your bridesmaid dress pics.

I didn’t even notice the Tweety birds until you pointed them out. Apparently the heading wasn’t enough of a clue for me.

What’s really embarrassing is I’m wearing an outfit exactly like that one as I write this.

First of all, WOW. I love this outfit for so many reasons, I can’t even begin to name them.

Secondly, I am way jealous of your sewing skillz. Sewing is definitely something I never learned past the button stage, but something I always wished I knew how to do. Just so I could make my own curtains. Or something.

I am totally saving these photos forever and ever, they’re adorable! And… I think I actually might remember that outfit….?

Clearly you knew that one day these photos would be posted on the internet, and you were concerned!
I love a good flashback to my younger days… makes me realize that I should not take myself too seriously.

They’d make adorable pajamas. Adorable. You should perhaps make a grown up version and wear it out. As a blog experiment say. I’m cracking up just thinking about it.

Those are AMAZING pictures!!! I wish we were friends back then and I could have had a matching outfit. Seriously, I would have loved it.

Also (just because I’m the best friend ever and not because I want to have another chance at my dream to be matching Tweety-outfit wearers) if you decide to go through with other commenters’ suggestions for making this dress in grown-up sizes, I’ll totally wear one out with you. Just not to the wedding. (Unless we find Tweety fabric in lavender.)

Oh my word. I had a Tweety outfit that MY Granny made for me! Mine was red and Christmasy… and I loved to wear it. All the time. Yikes!

Oh, I love Granny stories. My nana just passed away in April. Lots of memories of her that make me smile :)

You, as a little girl, have the Chandler Bing smile! Remember on Friends when Chandler and Monica went to have engagement pics taken and everytime Chandler saw the camera his smile changed? That’s probably what happened!!

Tacky? What are you talking about? I think you should wear this for the wedding.

You are making a bridesmaid dress?? Wow!! I want to know more about that! You are so brave (for so many things!)…

Reply

Ronnica June 22, 2010

Oh. My. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say those looks are for the fact that you hated being forced to wear it, but since that certainly was the case…

I hope you kept it!
