Twins are Contagious (So Watch Out)

October 5, 2011

Deer Twin Babies

My work isn’t entirely evil spiders plotting to murder us all.

That’s only like 80%.

Then it’s 10% adorable woodland creatures.

(And, naturally, 10% dreams of leaving it all to be an explorer.)

(Explorers are this generation’s circus performers.)

(Trust me.)

Deer Twin Babies

Of  all the animals I stalk, Gerald the Groundhog would be my favorite.

But Wilma the Deer comes in a close second.

She has the coat of a woman who wears animal skins as a coat, the eyes of a much younger deer and the ears of a bunny costume on Easter morning.

You can see where my infatuation began.

Deer Twin Babies

I admit, sometimes I’m a crappy stalker.

But I was still there to record when Wilma found a friend.

Which, given the latest development, might have been more than a friend.

Deer Twin Babies

For lately, Wilma has been frolicking around the woods with twins.

And not the bodybuilder type.

Rather, she’s added two precious does to her family.

Deer Twin Babies

This is like hitting the jackpot, in adorable stalking scenarios, so I’ve been quite excited.

Which is nothing like hitting the jackpot at a slot machine, as there’s no annoying lights or danger of suffocating under a mountain of fake coins.

(This jackpot is better, is what I’m saying.)

Deer Twin Babies

Stalking just gets better and better.

Gerald the groundhog had twins two years ago

So this might be considered a trend,

Megan

Awww, I think Wilma has a friend with benefits. Good for her.

My husband sees about 10 of those deer everyday on his way to work. That’s what happens when you live in the sticks and commute to the big city.

Last year he hit two raccoons with his Prius. The raccoons were fine, the car, destroyed. Now he drives a Chevy.

Reply

Megan October 5, 2011

Wait, is that a joke or did the raccoons really take out the Prius and walk away?

Because that’s just scary.

Abby October 5, 2011

Ahhhh.

Now THIS is what I’m talking about. Deer, I can handle. Spiders, not so much.

(Although I HAVE to confess, I’m dying to read the spider post. I’m working up to getting past the photos. LOL)

Your work place looks so nice! There are pretty plants (and alright, spiders; but I can overlook those) and grass and deer. (Btw – totally normal for other mammals to have more than 1 kid at a time) Mine is a generic corporate office and I look at the beltway and Tysons Corner Centre. So, if you ever need to know what traffic is like, let me know.

(thanks for the comment on my blog – I totally geeked out for a minute when I saw that you commented)

Megan October 5, 2011

I’m in awe of you – I can handle the spiders but just going to my friend’s house in Tysons makes me realize I don’t have the mental strength to drive through there every day!

Mindee@ourfrontdoor October 5, 2011

This is what I love about your city. Urban and wilderness are so intermingled. It’s truly beautiful.

Right up until the deer gets hit by a car.

Reply

Megan October 5, 2011

OH my freaking goodness I’m so worried! Seriously, Wilma runs out in front of cars in my parking lot all the time.

I fear it’s inevitable we experience a tragedy some day soon.

Reply

blueviolet October 5, 2011

Woodland creatures are so delightful, especially when they make more of themselves!

Reply

donna dorrane October 5, 2011

oh my goodness girl…where dooooo u live??? Such beautiful and lush surroundings. And I luv deers. They’re so cute and innocent. I think I’d trade all the art exhibits in the concrete jungle, for surroundings like that. Oh, and…

“She has the coat of a woman who wears animal skins as a coat.”

too funny.

Megan October 5, 2011

Northern Virginia aka DC Metropolitan Area aka the heart of suburbia. Though it does allow me the ability to easily go into the city for fun or out by the sticks to work!

Katie October 5, 2011

If you like deer, you should come visit. Some nights, it’s nothing to see 20 or 30 together on the fields by my parents’ house. Especially now that they are harvesting the corn! Most of ours are too skiddish, so I couldn’t get that close without sitting in a tree stand. (Which I can assure you, I won’t be doing.)

Reply

Megan October 5, 2011

I fear your deer just have a stronger sense of self preservation.

Sadly, my deer will probably pay for their lack of skittishness!

“Which, given the latest development, might have been more than a friend.” HA HA HA,
You are so darn funny. Thanks for stopping by. So busy these past few months that I don’t get out to blog land much and only hit the blogs on my blog roll. Glad you came by because it reminded me to stop over. :)
My daughter was in DC all summer – she is in love with it and hoping to go back after graduation in June. We visited as well and can see why she was enchanted.
I have a necklace giveaway going on right now, pop back over and enter! (you don’t have to be a follower, anyone can win)

I wish they only ate weeds. I can’t tell you how much a year I spend on an organic spray to keep them away from my flowers and shrubs!
Beautiful, but nimby! :)

How do you know that twin-having is not a side effect of your stalking? Huh?

Reply

Impulsive Addict October 5, 2011

Awww….I love these pictures! When we go up to Michigan to visit hubby’s parents, they always have adorbable deer in their yard and I love seeing them! We have some in our neighborhood but they’re never close to my house. Great pics!!

Hey, thanks for stopping by yesterday. I love a new visitor! =) Have a great Wednesday!

Hi Meagan,

Your pictures are gorgeous. Can you email me the type of camera you use?

Reply

Megan October 5, 2011

I use a Nikon d90 and those pics were taken with my Nikkor 35mm!

Reply

Skye October 5, 2011

Poor Wilma. Sure, the twins are cute now, but what about when it comes time to pay twice the college tuition? And where exactly is the baby daddy? I hope he is just taking a well-deserved nap to recover from daddy duties, but if the unthinkable happens, make sure Wilma knows that she has many supporters on your blog who are willing to help in her legal battle for child support.

I wish deer forever kept those white butt spots.

Kate and I saw a mommy and baby deer cross the road on the way to school the other day. I always fear for their lives, but try to hide that from Kate.

Kateka October 5, 2011

Megan, your pictures are beautiful!

Heather October 5, 2011

Those are beautiful pictures. I was out on my porch the other morning and I looked to my left and saw two deers. I slowly got up to get inside to crap my camera. By the time I got back out both deer was behind the trees where I knew I could not get a good picture.

Reply

Megan October 5, 2011

Oh, I had the same problem with these photos! The first one was taken through the window of my building but by the time I got downstairs they’d wandered off near the woods so none of the rest were very clear!

Silly deer, not realizing they’re suppose to be posing for our photo shoots!

Reply

Kelley October 5, 2011

That is so precious! And, by the way…

(I really love your use of parenthesis.)

(When you use a lot of parenthesis, it makes me laugh out loud.)

(I think you’re funny.)

I’m not a big fan of Gerald and Wilma stealing my thunder. Twins are my thing. Pass that on to them would you? ;)

Reply

Kallay October 5, 2011

I have to agree! (sort of)

Having twins is a lot like hitting the jackpot! (and also instead of fake coins, you’re suffocated by mountains of laundry and dirty diapers)

We live right on the edge of some woods, too. You’d have a hay day with all of the deer and turkeys that peek out of the woods. Sometimes, the turkeys get pretty brazen and gobble right on up to the bird feeders in our front yard (which is my grandma’s backyard, and also where all of the bird feeders are located).

These deer are gorgeous though. I love all of their spots. :)

Mental note – Megan may not take stalkerish photos of me for fear that I’ll have twins. And two of me OR my husband is a bad bad thing world. Especially when they could plot together.

Reply

Megan October 6, 2011

Oh no – I’m going to ride this twin train as long as I can.

So you should probably brace yourself.

Reply

Amanda Austin October 5, 2011

Eeks, remind me to stay away from that forest. The last thing I need is another baby and even worse…TWIN BABIES (the horror).

But they are so darn cute.

Reply

Janie Fox October 5, 2011

Your description of Wilma is superb. Cracked me up. Twins are a handful. I know …I have a twin sister and she is something else ;)

Reply

Missy Jill (What's Going On Here!?) October 5, 2011

Did you know that baby bunnies have no scent? So they mother leaves the nest to keep them safe from predators smelling HER. She only visits twice a day. I wonder if it’s the same when baby fawns are first born. According to Walt Disney’s Bambi, that is NOT the case. And we all know they’d never stretch the truth there.

Reply

Megan October 6, 2011

Oh no, Disney would never lie to me.

They’re like our benevolent overlords, but with more cartoons.

Awww, cute. I love deer. We have some that live in our backyard during the winter. My husband wants them to go away because they eat our plants but I enjoy them!

Reply

Lisa @ Blithe Moments October 6, 2011

Awww that is so gorgeous! I love deer, they are like fairytale creatures for a girl from Oz.

We do have deer in Australia – feral deer. Apparently any creature that gets introduced in this country just goes crazy for the wonder of the complete lack of predators. Seriously, have you ever heard of anything as crazy as having a feral deer?

That said, they aren’t in my part of the country, I just have to make do with kangaroos eating the lawn which are super ordinary compared to a gorgeous deer and her twins.

Reply

Megan October 6, 2011

Okay, your life is like a movie to me.

I WANT A LAWN KANGAROO!

(And see, your country brings out the evil in everything – and to think, you almost tricked me with that last comment!)

Reply

Lisa @ Blithe Moments October 6, 2011

I remember chatting to someone on an international flight who was worried that they might miss seeing kangaroos in Australia. As we landed I pointed some out near the airport. Seriously kangaroos are like rabbits, everywhere and just as annoying although FAR more damaging if you hit them with the car. But they are cute.

Tee, hee, yeah, we are the land of wild and free!

Reply

blackhuff October 6, 2011

The woodland creatures are stalking you because YOU are stalking them – the evidence is here on your blog ;)

So, I’m pretty sure I haven’t seen a deer before. Or maybe I have and can’t remember, but your pics look so surreal. Amazing by the way :) I’m sure you’d feel the same if I posted pics of the Springbucks / Wildebeest / Zebras roaming around (barely 200m from my previous home) at the game farm where I once used to live…

Reply

Megan October 6, 2011

Honestly? I don’t even know what wildebeests are, so I’d definitely be in awe!
